Why is life insurance needed? Why is it called as such when, in fact, it can only be used when the insured party passes away?
Life insurance is needed because, let’s face it. There are really no guarantees in life, especially when it comes to financial stability. One moment you have enough money to sustain your needs as well as your dependents’ needs; then suddenly, you find that you are out of a job, is suddenly injured or handicapped, and not able to provide for their needs any longer. When this happens, you will be in a sorry state; that is, not only you, but your loved ones. It is most especially a necessity if you suddenly die and you are the breadwinner. The reason why it is not called death insurance is because people do not really want to talk about death at all even if it is the only thing that is sure to happen to you, eventually.
To be able to get the life insurance cover that you need, you should to make sure that it generally has the following benefits when you pass away:
- Provides a steady stream of income to your dependents until such time that they can well provide for themselves. If possible, make sure they have a monthly income from the insurance for a long period of time.
- Takes care of funeral arrangements and/or expenses in the event of death. If possible and if you can afford it, it would be better that it will be able to take care of all your dependents’ funeral arrangements as well.
- Takes care of your children’s tuition fees and other schooling or education expenses.
- Takes care of your existing mortgage balance to avoid the displacement of your loved ones.
- Takes care of your medical expenses as well as your loved ones’.
- If you have a business you need to make sure would survive in the event you pass away, the insurance should take care of its operational expenses.
A life insurance policy that has all the above benefits may be expensive; however, there are now insurance providers that can provide you with quotations with premiums that are easy to pay off. Since life cover policies have already existed for quite some time now, more and more providers are trying to find ways to one up each other just to be sure that they get more customers. There are lots of scams out there as a result, so you really need to make it a point that you do the necessary background check and policy investigation before you get your feet wet. It is better safe than sorry.
